Super Hamilton 992B 21 jewel railroad watch.

Super Hamilton 992B 21 jewel railroad watch.

The Hamilton 992B is possible the best known of all the American railroad watches. Renowned for it's reliability and accuracy, and featuring all of the most up to date advances in watchmaking it continued in production until 1969. This one was made in 1951.

The movement has 21 jewels, a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallet stones, gold timing screws and a micro-regulator, it also has the "Elinvar" white metal hairspring with a solid mono-metal balance wheel.

This one is in fine mechanical and cosmetic condition, running strong in all positions and keeping spot on time. It is stem wind and lever set.

The gold filled case is probably not original to the watch as it has an inscription inside the rear cover dated 1932, although it is possible that the original owner had this movement fitted into the previously owned case, who knows? A bit like fitting a new engine into your car.

The case is in lovely condition with no dents, dings, abrasion or wear through. The screw on/off covers work fine and close down square and tight. Ver nice case!

Original double sunk white melamine dial is in very good condition, just a couple of small stains that are invisible to the naked eye but no cracking or crazing.

A very good set of blued steel railroad hands under a good acrylic crystal.

Overall a fine watch in beautiful condition and working well.
