16 size Illinois "Abe Lincoln" 21 jewel Railroad Watch
Offered here is a fairly hard to find Illinois railroad watch, a 21 jewel "Abe Lincoln".
The movement is a model 5, nickel split plate that was made in 1909 and features 21 jewels with screw set gold settings, gold alloy train wheels, a double roller within a fully capped escapement and adjustments for timekeeping in 5 positions. The movement also has a fully sprung micro-regulator. This is a really high specification that far exceeds the requirements of railroad regulations. The movement is in excellent condition running strong with good amplitude and keeping really good time.
The 20 year gold filled triple hinged case is by Wadsworth and is in fair condition for it's age. The engraved design to the rear does show wear although there is no evidence of brassing apart from the bow where the gold has been worn away due to contact with a chain. All 3 hinges are good and all 3 covers open and close as they should, closing square and tight.
A nice white enamelled dial in very good condition although this is not a railroad dial due to the Roman numerals (Railroad dials had to be Arabic numerals). Good heavy spade style hands and a mineral glass crystal that does have some light surface scratching.
Overall, a fairly scarce watch in fine condition.
